Wayne J Owens is an experienced business and organisational leader with a background spanning not-for-profit organisations, small-to-medium business, special projects and organisational development across Australia and Europe.
After several years living and working in Spain and Europe, Wayne returned to Australia and, in January 2025, took on the role of Chief Executive Officer of Building Design Queensland (BDQ).
His approach to leadership is grounded in simplicity, communication and cohesion. He believes organisations perform at their best when unnecessary complexity is removed, people understand where they are going and why, and strategy, governance, communication and operations are working toward the same objective.
Rather than defaulting to aggressive organisational overhauls, Wayne focuses on identifying the calculated adjustments that can unlock performance: clearer structures, simpler systems, stronger communication, pragmatic decision-making and people who understand both their responsibilities and their contribution to the bigger picture.
Central to that philosophy is a belief that successful organisations are ultimately built around people. Different backgrounds, perspectives and abilities strengthen an organisation when people are respected, properly supported and given a genuine understanding of the role they play in achieving a shared goal.

Wayne J. Owens is a multi-faceted business professional with almost 30 years of management experience across not-for-profit, commercial and project environments in Australia and internationally.
His career has encompassed organisational leadership, business development, strategic planning, stakeholder and relationship management, restructuring, project delivery and the development of organisations navigating periods of growth and change.
Since January 2025, Wayne has served as Chief Executive Officer of Building Design Queensland (BDQ), bringing together his experience in organisational management, governance, industry engagement, advocacy and strategic development.
